Pete Townshend, legendary guitarist of the iconic band The Who! It wasn't until August 1972 that he started using Gibson Les Pauls as his main guitars, replacing the Gibson SG Special, which model he preferred was no longer available. The Les Paul Deluxe eventually became Pete's longest-running stage guitar, which he used almost exclusively between 1973 and 1979. He made significant changes to the standard Deluxes over the years and began his now infamous numbering system for the guitars, having his guitar tech Alan Smith put different stickers on them to keep Les Pauls with different capo settings at the ready. In 2005 the Gibson Custom Shop honored this iconic musician, who will forever remain in the global memory with the Rock opera "Tommy" or albums like "Who's Next" or "Quadrophenia", with various signature models of the Les Paul Deluxe: the #1 in Wine Red, the #3 Goldtop and the #9 in Cherry Sunburst. The latter was produced in a strictly limited edition of just 75 pieces, of which we can offer you a particularly attractive specimen here. Pete's Paulas became famous above all for their enormous versatility due to the use of 3(!) humbuckers and 2 toggle switches. A "DiMarzio Dual Sound" humbucker was added to the usual Deluxe mini humbuckers, which can be switched to singlecoil mode via one switch and switched on and off via the other. "Won't Get Fooled Again", "The Real Me" and "Love, Reign o'er Me" are the sounds you associate with the time when Townshend played his Deluxes. ...and this replica sounds just as fat and smacking, and also fascinates with its super authentic look. Beautiful Cherry Sunburst, chrome-colored Grover tuners, cream-colored binding, trapezoidal fingerboard inlays, the characteristic large headstock of the 70s Les Pauls and of course the faithfully replicated sticker with the number 9. And the neck of the Deluxe is also wonderfully comfortable to play with its typical, slightly slimmer '76 profile. All in all, this is a fabulous Les Paul in absolute collector's condition that combines a multifaceted top sound, an iconic look, the best playability, musical history and the best value retention. ...and as a very special treat you also get a second certificate signed by Pete Townshand himself. Could it get any better?
