Back, sides and neck made of 45,000 year old New Zealand Kauri wood and a top made of 3,000 year old Alaskan Sitka spruce: unimaginable, but true! We have here the great honor and pleasure to present to you the present "Santa Cruz OM Custom Ancient Kauri & Ancient Sitka", where Santa Cruz Guitars have really pulled out all the available stops to create the most unique and simply awesome instrument you can imagine. New Zealand's "Ancient Kauri", the oldest known wood in the world, is known for its captivating history. The Kauri trees were toppled by catastrophic forces of nature nearly 50,000 years ago, preserved in mud in a swampy area and encapsulated in the oxygen-deprived environment, which caused the lack of decomposition. Only recently have these Stone Age trees been discovered in the swamps of New Zealand, their wood enchanting with its beautifully iridescent golden hues and a wonderful, smooth grain. There is no other wood in the world as rare and exclusive as the "Ancient Kauri Wood". The 3,000-year-old Sitka Spruce top is also an extremely rare wood. The "Ancient Sitka Spruce" was unearthed on an island in Alaska after being buried by a landslide over 3000 years ago. Over the course of three millennia the color has naturally changed to the extraordinary hue it has today. This is not a stain, the smoky green/gray color is the actual color of the wood. The tree was estimated to be 1000 years old when it fell, due to the encapsulation it has not rotted as a result, but has aged naturally over the millennia. The sound and clarity of this top wood is amazing. It has incredible resonance, presence and response, offering a warm, extremely mellow and open fundamental for the tonewood it is paired with. Rounding out this unique, phenomenal package are snakewood bindings and an ebony fingerboard with beautiful Snowflake inlays of Blue Paua pearl. In the video Santa Cruz's Richard Hoover on Ancient Kauri and Ancient Sitka Spruce, company founder Richard Hoover proudly talks about his unique custom-made Ancient Kauri and Ancient Sitka instruments.
