Here we have again a dream guitar for all practitioners. The Luke III is known to be the signature model of Steve Lukather and has been offered by Music Man for years in the most diverse variants - with active and passive pickups, as HSS or HH. Here we have the Bodhi Blue variant with two passive humbuckers. On the back, however, there is still a battery compartment, because the pickups can be boosted by up to 12 dB using a push-push pot. 2013 was also the first year that the Luke III was offered with a roasted birdseye maple neck. This not only makes it look fantastic, but also makes it extra resistant to environmental influences. An almost detune-free tremolo and locking tuners round out the overall package. Music Man has given the guitar five pickup positions. The three humbucker positions provide a perfectly smacky rock sound that is a bit closer to a Les Paul than a Superstrat. The two in-between positions sound really amazingly good and deliver silky and crisp single-coil tones, which really covers the whole sound spectrum here. The neck plays, as usual from Lukes, incredibly comfortable with the light V-profile. The previous owner installed a fixed strap here, which we found so cool that we didn't reorder any extra strap pins (but if you want to, you can always switch back). In addition, there are some slight signs of use in the varnish, which means you don't have to worry about depreciation with use. The frets also have slight signs of play, but should last a long time. Absolute player tip!
