Ibanez RG30JCLTD J. Custom 30th Anniversary (2017)

The RG30JCLTD is a 2017 RG series solidbody made in Japan by FujiGen as part of the “High-End J Custom” line and released as a strictly limited edition model to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the launch of the original RG550. It features a 4 mm thick, flamed 5A maple top and back on a mahogany body, which has been fitted with a titanium-reinforced maple and walnut neck with the so-called “Velvetouch” finish. As a visual highlight the fingerboard made from selected rosewood with 24 Jumbo stainless steel frets features beautiful “Tree of Life” inlays made from mother-of-pearl and abalone. Of course there is also a matching headstock and the cover of the electronics compartment is decorated with a special 30th anniversary logo. But this gem also plays phenomenally well thanks to the flatter “Super Wizard J Custom” neck and the detune-free “Low Pro Edge” vibrato system. The sound leaves nothing to be desired! Even the basic acoustic sound has an extremely balanced frequency range and an above-average response. The DiMarzio pickups prove to be perfect for transmitting this basic sound to the amp. Here we first have a “Tone Zone” humbucker on the bridge with its full, clean sound and higher output, which never sounds muddy. The “Air Norton” neck pickup is the perfect complement to the punchy character of the “Tone Zone” and delivers enough output for harder styles, but always remains open and airy for clear, clean sounds. And the “True Velvet” singlecoil in the middle provides rich, detailed and bell-like tones.
