The D-55 was first introduced in 1968 as a special top-of-the-line model and was so well received that Guild put it into regular production in 1974. Since then it gained more and more popularity. Hardly surprising, since with its Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides and ebony fingerboard and bridge it has all the ingredients needed for a classic, long-lasting look and a killer sound. This D-55 also features Guild's most famous headstock, which is fully bound and features Guild's "Peak and Shield" inlay. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound, features Guild's iconic abalone and mother-of-pearl "V-Blocks" and sits on a mahogany neck with a charming walnut center seam that runs the length of the neck to the headstock. The D-55's nitro finish is sprayed on by hand for minimal thickness and maximum resonance, which only gets better with age. And resonant this acoustic is! It also boasts amazing clarity, presence and response, offering a wonderfully dense, rich and balanced sound. Not surprisingly this guitar has been enjoyed and played often over the past twelve years as evidenced by one or two signs of use. But otherwise it is in top condition and with the built-in "D-TAR electronics" it is also ready for stage use. This combines a piezo pickup under the bridge with a very well insulated mini condenser microphone in the sound hole. So, if you are looking for a super player with top sound at an absolute preferential price, you should not wait too long here!
