After the Gibson SG started its triumphal march at the beginning of the 1960s new models began to be added to the SG product range. In this context the SG Special replaced the previously successful Les Paul Special and was offered as a P90 alternative. We are therefore delighted to offer you this authentic reissue of a 1963 SG Special from the Gibson Custom Shop. Equipped with all the fine ingredients that guarantee an excellent sound: mahogany body, Indian rosewood fingerboard, two excellent Custom P90 pickups and "paper-in-oil" capacitors. This perfect pickup configuration ensures a unique tone! Sometimes rough, aggressive and evil sounding, but also brilliant and harmonious in clean mode. "Best of both worlds" so to speak, ideal for Blues and Rock! It is not without reason that Pete Townsend, guitarist of "The Who", played with just such an SG for a long time. As a special feature this 1963 SG Special is equipped with a "Lightning Bar Wraparound Tailpiece" bridge, which ensures a very direct, dynamic sound and a perfect intonation. Visually, this SG has the classic look that we know and love from so many of our guitar heroes. Here in the VOS finish, which is known to provide a wonderful vintage patina without resorting to paint abrasion and artificial "damage". With its "Authentic '63 Medium C" shape the neck sits perfectly in the hand and invites hours of true playing pleasure. So it is hardly surprising that the guitar has also been played with pleasure in recent years as can be seen from the minimal signs of use, which we have of course taken into account when setting the price. The previous owner replaced the two studs with higher quality ones, but the original ones are included. Otherwise it is in top condition and can only be the very first choice for players and sound fetishists alike.
