Gibson Les Paul 59 Reissue Custom, Art & Historic (2003)

We are always surprised at how good the guitars are from the earlier years of the Gibson Custom Shop, which still operated under the name “Custom, Arts & Historic”. They are often in no way inferior to their newer counterparts and this '59 reissue is a perfect example of this. Despite the slightly thicker neck the guitar sits perfectly in the hand and impresses even when played dry with its quick response and enormously full sound. On the amp you quickly realize that it is not just made for typical warm Les Paul sounds. The two Burstbuckers (BB1 on the neck and BB2 on the bridge) deliver a lot of smack and attack, so that the Paula masters even the hardest Rock riffs with flying colors and the distorted licks are a real pleasure to play. In addition, a push/pull poti has been installed here (original poti included), with which you can split the neck pickup in order to enjoy great singlecoil sounds. Versatility par excellence! Finally, there is the fantastic top, which is grained in all directions and enchants with its extremely attractive color gradient. But the most fascinating thing is certainly the phenomenal “natural relicing” that this Les Paul exhibits. It comes from the previous ownership of an active studio musician and accordingly has moderate signs of wear on the sides and edges. The natural aging here is not only authentic, but genuine, and even Tom Murphy could not have done a better or more visually appealing job. Otherwise this special Paula, in which look, feel and sound form a perfect symbiosis, is in top condition.
