Jimmy Page - legendary guitarist of Led Zeppeiln - bought his “Number Two” in 1973 after he had been trying to acquire an exceptional second Les Paul for some time. This was a few years after he had received from Joe Walsh his “Number One”, a '59 Burst with a shaved-down neck profile and no serial number. “Number Two” was essentially all original when he acquired it. Jimmy immediately had some changes made to the neck shape to bring it closer to the feel of his “Number One”, slimming the neck down but not quite as much. Page played this Les Paul frequently during his time with Led Zeppelin before fitting it with Grover tuners and the legendary circuit that allows the humbuckers to be split as well as any conceivable combination of the four coils, which of course results in an immensely diverse sound for the guitar. In 2009 the Gibson Custom Shop released a replica of this iconic guitar in a strictly limited edition with only 100 specimens of the aged version being made, which have now all but disappeared from the market. If you are lucky enough to find one that is virtually untouched and really comes with the complete collector's package (including instruction templates for the interesting page circuit), it can only be compared to finding the Amber Room. We are therefore extremely pleased to be able to offer you just such an example with serial number 66. The powerful, beautiful sunburst finish with a red base tone, which has faded to a dark amber brown, is immensely fascinating. Add to this the phenomenal aging by Tom Murphy himself, who has meticulously recreated every trace of playing and use of the original down to the smallest detail, and the modified electronics with a variety of split and out-of-phase options, which are controlled via push/pull potis and two extra buttons under the pickguard. Although this guitar is of course the ultimate collector's item it should not be seen purely as a showcase piece, as it is simply too much fun to play. Once you've blasted out “Kashmir” you won't want to give this Paula back - especially as you can experiment endlessly with the sound. The guitar comes in absolute collector's condition and with all the factory extras such as cable, Gibson documentation and switching templates.
