1958 was the decisive year in the history of the Gibson Les Paul. Shortly after Seth Lover's newly developed humbucker pickup was installed on the Les Paul the finish of the Les Paul also changed in 1958 from the color gold to the much more popular sunburst. The myth of the "Burst" was born! And the early "Burst" finishes faded over the decades, so that in the end no red was visible at all. This rather rare coloring, known as "Lemon Burst," is also what this '58 reissue has. Combined with Murphy Lab's incredibly authentic heavy aging with numerous hairline cracks, quirks and abrasions it exudes exactly the mojo of the real old Bursts. And like most of the originals of this year it comes with a plain top, of course. The first thing you notice, though, is the ingenious neck profile. The "Authentic '58 Medium C-Shape" is not at all the usual, extremely fat profile you would expect from a '58 reissue. Rather it feels like a slightly beefier '59 profile. So pleasant to hold and comfortable to play you won't want to put this Paula down anytime soon. As for the sound the Murphy Lab Les Pauls are beyond reproach anyway. Already without amp super resonant and "woody" the unpotted Alnico-III-Custombuckers show their whole class on the amp: on the one hand fat and smacking, on the other hand clear and crisp. Here it is up to the player alone which part of the sound spectrum he wants to enter. We are happy to be able to offer you this sound-mighty beauty with best player qualities in mint, nearly unplayed condition.
