The Les Paul 58 "Checkerboard" at hand is a specimen from a strictly limited small series that the Gibson Custom Shop made specifically for Musikhaus Hermann, of course with MMH upgrade specs. What an amazing guitar! The look of the checkerboard pattern of the top in “Black & White” is unique. In addition, the Heavy Aging of the Murphy Lab with a special nitro lacquer formula to increase resonance. Smaller and larger flaws as well as countless hairline cracks, combined with the unique paintwork, create a really great appearance. But it's not just the look that's a strength of this '58 Les Paul, the well thought-out modifications also make it a top instrument. Careful attention was paid to the selection of pickups, which were modeled on old PAFs and perfectly reflect the complexity of the originals: on the bridge there is a really fat, unpotted Murphy-Spec Custombucker (NPC TH XHCMR), which ensures rich Rock boards and clean captures the "Tele on Stereoids" sound of old Bursts with fat, punchy bass and snappy, but never shrill highs. Depending on the intensity of the attack and the gain setting on the amplifier the mids can range from restrained to striking. On the neck there is a specially wound unpotted "Murphy Spec Underwound Custombucker" (NPC TH MCMRMHH), which is warm, transparent, three-dimensional and never undifferentiated or muddy in the bass at clean amp settings. With higher gain settings all classic sounds from Mike Bloomfield to Billy Gibbons to Gary Moore can be covered. Also worth highlighting is the perfect balance between both pickups and the middle position offers an incredible range of sound colors depending on the volume and tone settings. In addition to the use of bone glue and true historical parts the super comfortable "MHH CC 59er to 60er Authentic" neck profile is used as an upgrade feature, which in conjunction with a dream weight of just 3610 grams ensures fantastic player properties.
