When you open the case of this gem for the first time, you are immediately transported back to the golden era of guitar making. Tom Murphy has done an excellent job with the by no means subtle aging: the body and headstock are covered in a myriad of fine hairline cracks and considerable dings and dongs as well as paint abrasion in significant places round off the overall picture. And it is simply unbelievable how authentically Tom Murphy has once again achieved the gold tone here, so that at first you are really convinced that you are looking at a genuine, old '57. In the hand, the first thing you notice is the perfect neck, which neck profile is somewhat stronger than a 59 Medium and in conjunction with the guitar's ideal weight of just 3970 grams is super comfortable and convenient to play. It is by no means too fat, but with just the right swing mass it gives the guitar an incredible fullness even when played dry, which is paired here with a direct response. The same impression on the amp: the Custombuckers sound crisp and present in their response, but also deliver plenty of warmth and creaminess for singing lead sounds. That's what you want from a '57!
