In 1973 Jeff Beck was in Memphis, TN for studio recordings and visited the popular music store "Strings and Things". There a very special guitar caught his attention, a 1954 Gibson Les Paul that a customer had brought over for some very special modifications. One of the requests was that the original gold top finish be removed in favor of a deep chocolate brown finish, a color that showed oxblood hues under certain lighting conditions. Other modifications included installing Humbuckers in place of the original P-90s, slimming down the 50s neck profile and replacing the original tuners. Legend has it that the customer didn't like the results, ...but Jeff Beck did. He bought the modified Les Paul, played it extensively on tour, as well as in the studio and even gave it a place of honor on the cover of his landmark 1975 album "Blow by Blow". So, we are pleased to offer you here #42 of the Gibson Les Paul 54 Jeff Beck Oxblood Aged & Signed (and Played), limited to 50 copies. One-piece mahogany body and neck with Beck profile, lightweight aluminum wrapover bridge and the Burstbucker 2 and Burstbucker 3 (neck and bridge) used are among the most accurate vintage PAF reproductions Gibson has ever made. As such, this guitar is simply an absolute tone monster. Rarely have we held a Les Paul from the Custom Shop that exhibited such sustain, dynamics and open, singing tone. Even played clean, you get the feeling of endless sustain here. The Gibson guys really did a great job here in selecting the tonewoods. So this class Paula, which comes from a collector's hand and is therefore in almost untouched condition, offers not only history and a unique rarity value, but can also fully convince with its excellent sound. Optimal for all who are looking for the ultimate sound with top value retention.
