When we get our hands on Les Pauls from the so-called "Good Wood" era of the '90s, we're always fascinated by what great instruments the Gibson Custom Shop, then called Custom, Art & Historic, released in its early years. They often outperform their newer counterparts and this 60s reissue is a perfect example. First of all one has to mention the gorgeous top here: a truly marvellous, pronounced grain that extends across the gloss finish in deep darkburst. The noble, gold-colored reflector knobs match this as well. Normally you would expect a 1960 model to have a super flat Slim Taper neck. But that's not the case here as this neck profile is rather midway between Slim Taper and Medium-59 profile. Therefore it plays exceptionally well and feels comfortable in the hand. Furthermore, the guitar can already convince dry by fast response and full sound. And on the amp you quickly notice that it can produce both typically warm Les Paul sounds and assertive Rock sounds. The basic character here always remains nicely open with the slight Strat-like portion as you know it from the real old Les Pauls. So, if you want a top player with a fantastic look, this is the one for you. The back of this Les Paul shows a few belt buckle scratches (see picture 8), which we took into account in the price. Otherwise, we can offer you the guitar in top condition with only minimal playing marks.
