In the mid to late 1960s there was a great demand from students and beginners who could not yet afford a top-of-the-line electric guitar. Gibson met this demand by launching Juniors and Specials, simpler versions of the classic Les Paul design. The P90s used in these, which came in a variety of configurations, offered an openness and crisp effervescence that humbuckers could not, and so these less expensive Gibson guitars became increasingly popular. However the Les Paul Special Double-Cut at hand, limited to 25 specimens, disproves the assumption that a Special would always be a stripped-down model. The gold hardware and transparent "TV Black Gold" finish, which allows a glimpse of the killer wood grain, make for a super classy look that, combined with the white tuner knobs and gold tuners, is just downright sexy. The slim C-shape neck together with the comfortable weight of only 3460 grams and the proven medium jumbo frets offer the very best playability. With the tone poti all the classic sounds can be brought out on the neck pickup and the direct and pure P90 on the bridge is really fun! Country twang, fat Blues or slamming Rock, everything is possible here, ...and always with the characteristic raw and pure P90 sound. Simply a unique Les Paul Special with high rarity value, best sound and a great playability, which comes to its future owner in top condition except for minimal signs of use.
