To celebrate the grand opening of the Gibson Garage in London, Gibson has collaborated with Noel Gallagher to release 20(!) hand-signed Gibson 1978 Les Paul Customs. These 20 instruments were only available to visitors attending the official opening of the Gibson Garage in person on Saturday, February 24, 2024. All profits from the sale of this special series will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity. The Noel Gallagher 1978 Les Paul Custom is inspired by the very guitar originally given to Noel by Johnny Marr, which he used extensively for live performances and recording sessions with Oasis, most notably in the '94 video for the hit single 'Whatever'. Gallagher, who is also an ambassador for the named charity for young people with cancer, explained: "The Les Paul Custom that Johnny gave me in 1994 has always been one of my favorite guitars. It has a lot of history. The reissues are great, they feel almost identical. I'm really pleased that they're being sold to support the Teenage Cancer Trust." And what a phenomenal Les Paul Custom we have here! It weighs in at just 3980 grams and the medium neck profile feels great in the hand. The wonderful aging of the Murphy Lab is super authentic, with countless, by no means subtle hairline cracks in the weathered, deep black finish without any huge flaws or major paint abrasion. Of course the additional mini-switch of the original for singlecoil operation is also a must and the 490R and 498T pickups deliver fantastic classic Rock sounds in top form. This Les Paul really smacks and has a great response. Phenomenal tone and endless sustain! Also a reference Paula in terms of sound without compromise. We are delighted to be able to offer you the only specimen of this iconic Les Paul Custom currently available in the European Union in mint, virtually unplayed condition.
