Some of the most famous guitar sounds in pop history come from the model of this jet-black J-180. Cat Stevens used such a Gibson J-180 on his albums Teaser And The Firecat ("Morning Has Broken") and Tea For Tillerman ("Wild World"), after he had purchased it in 1969 from the London music store Selmer's. The J-180 was used for the first time in the 1970s. In the late '70s, Cat Stevens sold all his equipment, but was reunited with "his" J-180 decades later. Now the Gibson Custom Shop has released a collector's tribute model of this guitar, limited to only 50 pieces. Even the large cat artwork on the case makes it clear what's inside. The guitar comes with a thermally aged Sitka spruce top, a moon-and-stars mother-of-pearl inlay on the headstock, star inlays on the fingerboard, and the original Yusuf/Cat Stevens signature on the label in the soundhole. In addition, there is an active L.R. Baggs M1 pickup. As an instrument, we can also really recommend the guitar primarily to players with a more mellow style. The Cat Stevens sounds wonderfully warm, dynamic and has a natural compression that makes any fingerpicking and light strumming a pleasure. The neck is rather beefy and plays really great with its D profile. We can offer you this special J-180 in pristine collector condition. Also included are all extra accessories like patches and stickers with Cat Stevens artwork!
