Gibson ES-335 B.B. King "Live at the Regal" (2023)

The ES-335 "Live At The Regal" is a limited edition replica of the legendary '59 ES-335 that B.B. King played at his 1964 performance at the Regal Theater in Chicago. This semi-hollow comes in the special color "Argentine Grey Sunburst" and its super comfortable neck has an authentic 59 "Medium-C" shape and a dark rosewood fingerboard with nitro dot inlays. The guitar's top, back and sides were crafted from three-ply maple/poplar/maple in the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, TN, while a solid maple center block reduces feedback. True to the original the instrument also features a Bigsby vibrato, Grover "Milk Bottle" Rotomatic tuners, and "True Historic Gold Top Hat" poti knobs with dial pointers, ...all in a beautifully aged nickel finish. Matching this is the subtle aging of the ES, which is particularly impressive at second glance with numerous hairline cracks that run across the attractive vintage patina. The electronics consist of a pair of unpotted Custombuckers, which are connected to a mono Varitone switch and a three-way pickup selector switch on the guitar's black pickguard. The sound is just as fat and smacky as a solidbody, but with an extra touch of airiness that is a real joy not only with clean chords, but also with distorted Blues riffs. Matt Koehler from Gibson said of the guitar: "Recreating B.B. King's 'Live at the Regal' ES-335 with this limited edition model is a dream come true for me. It's one of the coolest guitars in history, played by the greatest of all time on the greatest live album of all time. It's also an absolutely unique custom order from 1959, the most important year in Gibson history."
