This Gibson Anchor Stud Bigsby ES-335 VOS in "Antique Pelham Blue" from the Memphis Custom Shop is one of the 2018 special models. It is based on the fact that in 1959 the Bigsby was only installed at the special request of the customer and the then superfluous holes in the stoptail were closed with special screws ("anchor studs"). The Gibson Custom Shop resurrected precisely such modified specimens with this "Anchor Stud". And the guitar at hand offers something for the eye as well as the ear. First of all of course it has a stunning look. The wonderfully patinated Pelham Blue with the super authentic VOS finish together with the classic block inlays on the fingerboard, the "witch hat" knobs and the chrome-colored Bigsby are a perfect match. Even when played dry you can feel the great resonance and sustain of the entire guitar body. And the "Dual Factory Gibson MHS Humbucker" are beautifully airy, differentiated and extremely balanced. With higher gain settings on the amp all classic sounds from Clapton to Gibbons to Gary Moore can be covered. The bridge pickup offers the clean "Tele on Steroids" sound of old bursts - fat, punchy basses and biting, but never shrill highs. Depending on the attack intensity and gain setting the mids can range from restrained to striking. The neck has a "Rounded C" profile, which makes this magnificent instrument fantastic and extremely comfortable to play. An absolute hit in terms of looks, feel and sound and very hard to come by these days.
