Gibson's success is based not only on the fact that they build world-class guitars, but also on the fact that many great musicians play a Gibson guitar. If there's someone who's been seen with an ES-175 for more than 60 years, then it's no surprise that they've had his own signature guitar dedicated to them. We are of course talking about Herb Ellis, one of the most famous Jazz guitarists. Mostly on the road with an ES-175D, where he only used the neck pickup. That's why the present ES-165 Herb Ellis Signature only has one "Gibson BJB Floating Humbucking" pickup, which is evident on the one hand in the low weight of the guitar, but on the other hand also offers tonal advantages as the top is not weakened by the milling for an unused bridge humbucker. Otherwise the construction of the Gibson Herb Ellis corresponds completely to an ES-175. Visually top notch! The “Vintage Sunburst” nitro finish sets off the flamed maple magnificently, perfectly rounded off by the elegant golden hardware. The slightly stronger medium neck profile is so comfortable to hold that you won't want to put this great instrument down. Thanks to the well thought-out design with cutaway playability is first-class even at high registers. ...and the present specimen was enjoyed playing, which is evident among other things from a few scratches on the neck heel and abrasion of paint on the body transition of the tailpiece. Otherwise the ES-165 is in very good condition and guarantees many years of jazzy playing pleasure.
