With this guitar in a dark red, super authentic Faded Cherry finish the guys at Murphy Lab have really outdone themselves with the phenomenal heavy aging. The appearance of the SG is simply unique! Perfect vintage look, in which the Faded Cherry already shows a touch of brown, as it is just the case with real old ones. In addition, a not at all subtle aging with countless hairline cracks, quirks and pronounced abrasions and the wonderfully yellowed surface of the silver hardware. What also immediately strikes you as positive is the neck of this guitar, which doesn't have the usual ultra-thin Slim-Taper profile of other SGs, but comes with a pleasant 64 Authentic Medium-C shape that gives you a bit more in your hand. Nice and grippy, but still slinky! And the sound of the Custombuckers is just fantastic! As you'd expect from an SG it's a bit more present than a Les Paul. Clean you get a lot of transparency and no mud. Distorted, the party really gets started: fat, distorted riffs blow at you with a bite and an attack that makes you not want to stop flitting across the beautiful rosewood fingerboard. Still there's enough warmth at all times to fire off singing lead sounds as well. The guitar never sounds shrill or thin but simply perfectly balanced. The Maestro Vibrola with the noble Gibson lettering on the cover plate is wonderfully smooth and works almost without detuning. This is how you imagine an SG, this is really fun!
