Froggy Bottom SJ Deluxe (2014)

In 1970 Michael Millard built the first Froggy Bottom Guitar in his apartment on the Lower East Side of New York. He had to bend the sides of the guitar on the heating pipe that ran through his kitchen to the floors above. Now he and four employees in Chelsea, VT, produce around 75 exclusive acoustic guitars every year. Since 2008 they have been offering the SJ model, which is of course based on the “Southern Jumbo” from Gibson. At Froggy Bottom special emphasis is placed on the choice of wood and so the rosewood used here for the back and sides is of the very highest quality with a beautiful structure and color. The Adirondack spruce used for the top is also first-class, as is the mahogany for the neck and the ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. The craftsmanship of the guitar is breathtaking with Michael Millard and his knowledgeable staff paying attention to every detail, no matter how small, to optimize the resulting sound. In terms of sound, the Froggy Bottom SJ has a slightly dark but extremely rich bass response, great tonal balance and a dynamic range that makes it ideal for both flatpicking and fingerstyle. Always full and warm this acoustic can enchant with wonderfully shimmering highs. The complex sound palette of the SJ in combination with its fantastic response to different playing styles make it a versatile top instrument that you will be reluctant to put down due to its sophisticated player features such as a nut width of 1 3/4'' and a scale length of 25''.
