Fender Stratocaster David Gilmour Signature Relic (2008)

We are extremely pleased that today we can offer you the replica of probably the most legendary Strat in two versions: on the one hand in the cheaper NOS version, on the other hand as a reliced specimen with all the characteristic dings and dongs. The original, David Gilmour's '69 Black-Strat, fetched nearly $4,000,000 at auction in 2019, the highest sales price ever for a guitar. This Stratocaster accompanied Gilmour for more than 45 years and was used by him on seminal albums such as "Atom Heart Mother", "Meddle", "Obscured by Clouds", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here", "Animals" and "The Wall". It was 1970 when David Gilmour of Manny's in New York purchased the Black-Strat, a standard model with a distinctive maple neck and a large headstock. Over the years David made numerous modifications. So he switched to the legendary black pickguard and among other things installed a mini toggle switch to switch the neck pickup to the middle or bridge pickup, which according to his long-time guitar technician Phil Taylor gave him a certain Jazzmaster sound. He also installed a 57 maple neck and a specially wound Seymour Duncan SSL-5 on the bridge. Based on the original down to the last detail, this replica from 2017 plays super slinky with the characteristic, slightly thinner Gilmour neck profile (1983 Thin-Shouldered C), 7.25'' fingerboard radius and Vintage-Style frets, so that it can be effortlessly whizzed over the medium brown maple fingerboard. The sound is of course typical Gilmour! The "Fat 50s" on the neck and the custom-wound '69 singlecoil in the middle have a wonderfully bell-like, pearly appearance and the fantastic SSL-5 can not only enchant fans of Pink Floyd. “Comfortably Numb”, “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” and “Atom Heart Mother” just flow from your fingers. The aging of the deep black finish is authentic down to the last nuance and extremely detail-oriented. Not only can you see that the black paintwork on David's Stratocaster was a subsequent overspray, but in addition to countless hairline cracks and flaws you can even see the traces of the Kahler vibrato that was temporarily installed. This iconic guitar from the very first Custom Shop edition in 2008 with an unmistakable look, which comes to its future owner in top condition and with all the case candies such as cables, strings, CD, DV, poster and above all Phil Taylor's "The Black Strat" book, should not be missed!
