John Cruz - the masterbuilder legend of the Fender Custom Shop! Every time we get our hands on one of his now extremely rare guitars we are fascinated by the rich detail of his aging and the powerful sound of his instruments. Such is the case with this 1963 Heavy Relic Strat. As soon as you open the case the mojo pours out! The finish in Olympic White, the Tortoise pickguard, the yellowed pickup caps, the dark fingerboard made of Indian rosewood ... everything fits visually. On first check you immediately notice the pleasant weight of under 3.5 kg and the fabulously comfortable neck, which plays like butter with its Mid-60s Oval-C profile, 9.5" fretboard radius and the proven 6105 frets. Pickups used are a wonderfully thought-out combination of Handwound Josefinas: Texas Special at the bridge, Fat 50s in the middle and a 69 at the neck. With this pickup combination all classic Strat sounds are covered in top form. No matter which position, the guitar has immense substance in its tone. Together with the lively and vibrant basic character of the instrument you get a Strat sound at its finest. The guitar pearls, smacks and sings so that you don't want to stop. An all-around perfect Masterbuilt that only shows minimal play marks on the first three frets, but is otherwise in top condition. Since John Cruz has left the Fender Custom Shop in 2020 and thus no longer produces Masterbuilt guitars, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of one of his dream instruments. Therefore you should not wait too long here!
