Compared to Maplenecks guitars with African Blackwood are considered rounder and more balanced, and that's exactly what you get with this '63 Relic in faded Fiesta Red. This is not only due to the choice of woods, but also the tried and true pickup mix of a Handwound 65 on the neck, a Handwound Fat 50s in the middle and Handwound Texas Special on the bridge. These add a dose of belliness and attack to the balanced basic sound, so you really get the best of all Strat worlds here. As usual from Jason Smith, you also have to give full marks for playing comfort here. The neck with its 9.5" radius, 6105 jumbo frets and "60s Oval C" profile plays extra slinky thanks to the stripped back. The cherry on top is the dream weight of just 3.1kg.
