The '51 Fender Nocaster, affectionately known as “The Bludgeon”, came into Joe Bonamassa's life in 2014 and obviously made a huge impression on the Blues-Rock titan, so much so that five years later he described the instrument as “the best guitar I own”. “It's as much a tool as it is a weapon,” he wrote in a post on Instagram. “It's the most dynamic instrument I've ever played in my life.” Certainly very big words from someone whose collection includes more than 500 guitars. His fondness went so far that he teamed up with the Fender Custom Shop in 2019 to bring out a replica of his Nocaster in a strictly limited edition of just 100 specimens. In the process Seymour Duncan was also called in to replicate the original pickups of the Nocaster, which is equipped with a humbucker on the neck and a flatpole singlecoil on the bridge. As a result this extremely resonant replica also offers an extraordinary variety of sounds. Every single nuance of sound is an absolute feast for the ears, from the direct, punchy bridge sound with super attack to the out-of-phase middle position and the super bluesy neck humbucker. Cutting twang at the bridge, an funky middle position and fat lead sounds at the neck - all with the unmistakable character of a classic Nocaster. Masterbuilder Greg Fessler has also come up with something special for the finish. The extremely faded Butterscotch Blonde of the original Blackguard was “color matched” 1:1 and the heavy relicing also replicates the individual traces of use of the original guitar. This attention to detail continues with the remaining specs: the volute, the neck scoop and the extremely comfortable neck were modeled exactly on the dimensions of Joe's Nocaster and fitted with a 7.25'' radius and Vintage Upgrade frets. An all-round masterpiece, a great overall package that comes as close as possible to its historical model. Every collector's heart will beat faster, especially as the guitar comes to its future owner in absolute collector's condition.
