After introducing the “Esquire” as a single and double pickup model in 1950 Fender sales manager Don Randall decided to give the double pickup version its own name. He called it the “Broadcaster” - a revolutionary instrument with a newly developed truss rod system for easily adjustable neck stability and a walnut “skunk stripe” that concealed the installation through the back of the neck. The guitar was also finished in a translucent blonde nitrocellulose lacquer that showed off the high-quality ash body, accented by a single-ply black pickguard. However, despite its growing popularity the Broadcaster was short-lived - it was only produced for a few months from October 1950 to January 1951. The reason: a trademark right of the Fred Gretsch Manufacturing Corporation to this name. The Broadcaster was therefore given a new, unusual name, which began its fantastic and enduring history as the “Telecaster”. Today the few original Broadcaster guitars are the stuff of legend and are prized by players, collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. For the “Masterbuilt Limited 70th Anniversary Broadcaster” the Fender Custom Shop has recreated these original guitars in reverent homage to their original splendor. Only 70 specimens were made in 2020 with each Masterbuilder of the Custom Shop allowed to leave their own signature. So we are particularly proud to be able to offer you one of the extremely rare specimens today, which was made by the now iconic masterbuilder Vincent van Trigt. An amazing instrument with the perfect relicing that only Vincent can produce. Every component of this Broadcaster was assembled by him to his exacting standards of perfection. We have rarely seen or felt a neck that is so comfortable in the hand and which unique grain is so beautiful to look at. Everything about this unique piece is special, including the “Handwound 50-51” pickups used. The tone has a natural, woody basic character and an enormously warm and transparent sound. From simple rhythms to soaring leads, everything is possible here in top form. We are delighted to be able to offer you this gem in top condition. ...and as a special bonus the guitar also comes with a second fully assembled electronics circuit.
