After introducing the "Esquire" electric guitar as a single and double pickup model in 1950, Fender sales chief Don Randall decided in the fall to give the double pickup version its own name. He called it the "Broadcaster" - a revolutionary instrument with a newly designed truss rod system for easily adjustable neck stability, a walnut "skunk strip" that concealed the installation through the back of the neck and an attachment to the headstock. The guitar also featured a translucent blonde nitrocellulose finish that showed off the high-quality ash body, accented by a single-ply black phenolic pickguard. Notable early Broadcaster slingers included Bill Carson, Rex Gallion, and Charlie Aldrich. But despite its growing popularity the Broadcaster was short-lived - it was produced for only four months, from October 1950 to January 1951. The reason: a trademark right to the name held by the Fred Gretsch Manufacturing Corporation. The Broadcaster was therefore quickly given a new, unusual name, which began its fantastic and enduring history as the Telecaster. Today, the few original Broadcaster guitars are the stuff of legend. They are treasured worldwide by players, collectors and enthusiasts who understand their central role. For the Masterbuilt Limited 70th Anniversary Broadcaster the Fender Custom Shop has recreated these original guitars in reverent tribute to their original glory. In 2020 70 of these guitars were made, with each Custom Shop Masterbuilder creating their own relic finish. And we are especially proud to offer you here one of the specimens made by the shooting star of masterbuilders Vincent van Trigt. An amazing piece with perfect relicing as only Vincent van Trigt can make them. Every component of this instrument was assembled by Vincent to his exacting standards for perfection. We have rarely seen or felt a neck that is as comfortable in the hand and as beautiful to look at as this one. Everything about this one-of-a-kind piece is special. And we also fell in love with the Custom Shop 50-51 handwound pickups. The tone has a natural wood character and a very warm and transparent sound, from simple rhythms to soaring leads. We are happy to offer you this gem in mint condition with no playing marks on the frets.
